DEV NOTES
- Continuing with the theme of using other games I felt could be improved as inspiration: I'm very ambivalent about Yume Nikki, because I love the ideas but in practice I think it's easy to get bored with the slow walking speed and general directionlessness. This was an attempt to make a game with similar vibes to YN, but which would go by a bit quicker and where it'd be easier to tell where you were supposed to be going. IMO, the lamp-posts in this game (a nod to The Beginner's Guide) are *too* much direction; they focus the player's mind too much into the goal-oriented mode of getting from point A to point B, and don't allow for the drifting pensiveness that YN is so good at.
- This was the most, uh, 'controversial' game I've made. Some people who played it told me they thought it was the best game I've ever made, that it should be on Steam and so on, but others really hated it. I'm happy it was able to provoke an emotional response in people, at least, but in retrospect there's a lot I could've done better. This game is very visually-oriented and I'm not really a visual arts kinda guy, which is why most of my other solo games use stock assets or eschew visual art entirely.
- This is the biggest game I've ever made in terms of disk space, mostly because of the huge textures in the third area. It's too big to upload to Neocities, so I can't include a direct download link here; you'd have to get it from itch.
